There will be an estimated 40 million used car transactions next year, according to Carfax, and many buyers will take advantage of auto financing to complete their purchase.
However, prior to buying a used car, there are a number of things they should consider, as the process can be very different from purchasing a new automobile.
"As the demand for used cars continues to rise, so do the opportunities for scam artists to prey on unsuspecting victims," said Carfax communications director Larry Gamache.
It's for this reason that used car buyers should request a vehicle's history report, advises the company. This document will indicate any serious issues the automobile may have encountered in the past, such as water damage or any major accidents. While the car may appear to be good as new, these types of incidents can have unseen consequences.
For example, a water-damaged vehicle may run great off the lot, but over time the owner could encounter serious issues with the electrical system. If this occurs while the car is in motion, it could put the driver and passengers in harms way.
