If it is time to renovate your home, beware the common mistakes many owners make. Don’t waste the funds from your home improvement loans on materials that may not improve the look and value of your home.
Here are the top three renovation mistakes a homeowner can make:
1. Failing to get permits. Unless it is a simple job, you will most likely be required to file for work permits and schedule inspections from electricians, plumbers or fire inspectors. Forgetting to obtain a permit can result in a fine and even delay the project.
2. Reducing home value. Making renovations that have a negative impact on the value of your property have to be considered carefully. Weigh the pros and cons before choosing something for personal taste that may not be easy to change before selling.
3. Buying cheap materials. Selecting the right materials is the best way to improve the quality and value of your property. If cost is an issue, choose a few quality materials as staples such as wood, marble or granite.
