Tips to saving gas for used car owners

Unlike many of their new counterparts, used cars do not often achieve grand gas mileage. However, even during times of increased gas prices, that is not a reason to give up on your used car and consider new car auto financing.
Here are three tips to implement in your gas buying habit in order to decrease expense:
1. Use mobile applications or websites. There are a slew of new websites and applications dedicated to reporting the cheapest gas prices around the United States. Before heading out in the morning or leaving work, take a moment to search your local area for any potential deals.
2. Track region or town differences. While all the gas stations in one region or area may be at a set price, traveling a bit farther, on your commute to work or school could reveal towns that sell gas at a lower cost.
3. Pay attention to the time of the week. Gas prices are lower in the middle of the week and higher on the weekend due to increased joy riding, reports Yahoo! News. However, this may not be the case for all areas, and you may wish to make a note of gas prices at a station for a few weeks to determine which days offer a lower rate per gallon.
