When it comes to acquiring auto financing and picking out the perfect vehicle, buyers naturally have affordability on their minds. Today, one of the biggest costs is fuel, and as a result more people are turning to alternative methods.
Diesel is one type of fuel that is both highly efficient and produces improved performance. According to data from Hybrid Cars.com and Baum and Associates, clean diesel vehicle sales ticked up 25 percent over the first half of 2014. Sales of this type of auto increased 8.8 percent in June compared to the same time last year, while the overall market climbed 1.1 percent on a yearly basis.
"Sustained and mostly double-digit increases in sales each month over a four year period prove that U.S. consumers are embracing the benefits of clean diesel technology and its proven, high fuel efficiency, great driving performance, and long-term value," said Allen Schaeffer, executive director of the non-profit organization Diesel Technology Forum.
If diesel sounds like an interesting option for you, Edmunds.com highlighted several important considerations to keep in mind. For example, be aware that diesel costs more than regular gasoline. However, it is more efficient, so you can go longer between visits to the pump. Plus, it has better performance, making it ideal for trucks, towing and other applications.
