Picking that perfect vehicle for a growing family can be a challenging proposition. Thankfully, access to auto financing and a wide range of options have made this goal easier as of late.
According to Parents magazine and Edmunds.com, safety is one of the most important factors to keep in mind when shopping for a new car. Affordability is another valuable consideration, and top choices include the Mazda3, Subaru Outback and Hyundai Santa Fe.
"Whether they're taking a summer road trip or just making a grocery run, families expect a lot from their vehicles," said Parents magazine editor-in-chief Dana Points. "Safety is every parent's top priority, and we're excited by how many manufacturers are now offering blind-spot mirrors and collision-avoidance systems in addition to multiple airbags and government-required electronic stability control."
In addition, families may want to look at several options from Volkswagen - the Golf and the GTI - which recently received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's highest safety award. These vehicles performed incredibly well in the small overlap test and front crash prevention. They both come with an optional forward collision warning system, another factor the IIHS takes into account.
