May shaping up to be great month for auto sales

Even with access to affordable auto financing, 2014 has gotten off to a slow start for vehicle sales. However, that appears to be shifting, thanks to added incentives and other positive trends within the industry.
According to Cars.com, May's high number of incentives has turned the segment into a buyer's market. Many great deals are currently attached to plenty of options, including Cadillac, Buick, Mazda and Ford, among others.
"Though new-car sales are picking up after a slow start in 2014, above-average inventory levels will likely keep consumer incentives high through spring and into the summer sales period," said Jesse Toprak, chief analyst for Cars.com. "Considering how much value consumers are getting for their money today, we can safely claim that there has never been a better time to buy a car."
Furthermore, there is also good news for the environment. The University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute reported that average monthly vehicle emissions have dropped to a new low. Per driver, levels have decreased 23 percent since October 2007. In addition, fuel economy remains strong, at 25.2 miles per gallon for cars, light trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles.
