With increased access to affordable home improvement financing and a more stable economy, homeowners across the U.S. are taking advantage of emerging renovation trends.
According to an Angie's List survey of remodelers and interior designers, 2014 has brought about several new strategic improvements and other changes that could be exactly what a homeowner wants in their property. For example, many people are interested in functionality, efficiency and reusing existing space.
One area that is a popular location for upgrades is the kitchen, Angie's List noted. A number of homes are now being designed with open floor plans, connecting this room to those nearby. This is appealing because it creates more space and changes the atmosphere of the house.
Susan Colvin, owner of Susan Colvin Interiors in Indianapolis, explained that open floor plans, especially with the kitchen, can make smaller homes feel much larger than they actually are.
In addition to these design trends, homeowners interested in a project should consider bringing in professional help that can protect the quality and the safety of the property. According to HGTV, a remodeler can save money by doing the job right the first time, provide crucial advice and make sure all renovations meet building codes and other legal requirements.
