Self-driving vehicles, technology gain popularity

The day when drivers won't actually have to drive - instead the vehicle itself recognizing hazards, making changes and motoring down the road on its own - isn't quite here yet, but it appears to be coming.
Perhaps in the near future those with auto financing could purchase a self-driving vehicle, but at the moment new technology and other features are already working their ways into the cars of today.
For example, automakers Infiniti, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus and Acura are all putting automatic steering into their luxury brands, according to USA Today. Those cars can drive on their own in a limited capacity using radar and cameras, but the trend is becoming clear.
Google has also been a pioneer of autonomous driving, leading a number of tests in California. However, at the moment few drivers want to share the road with these types of vehicles, even though some of the technology is already in place.
Currently, three states allow self-driving vehicles - California, Florida and Nevada, according to the Los Angeles Times. While price and technology aren't quite up to speed yet, consumers, regulators and insurers could also get in the way of the growing trend.
Even though auto financing can't be used to afford autonomous vehicles now, many automakers are working toward a future with fewer drivers - but the same amount of vehicles - on the road.
