Keeping your car running isn't just about getting from point A to point B - a car is a significant investment for most consumers. It can even be a source of income if the owner chooses to sell at a certain point. However, getting top dollar for a used vehicle is tied directly to the condition the car is in. To keep your car running smoothly and in tip-top shape, follow these simple tips:
1. Follow a suggested service schedule
There's a reason that your owners manual recommends service after certain mileage and scheduled intervals. Skipping an oil change or a tune up may not seem to have an immediate impact on performance, but over time can turn into an expensive an inconvenient hassle.
2. Make sure cooling systems are in working order
Regardless of outside temperature, your car's cooling system is invaluable to keep the engine from overheating. Top off coolant regularly and have a mechanic look at the state of delivery hoses.
3. Listen for noises
If you notice that your car is making a noise it never used to before - including knocking, rattling, clicking or a high-pitch whine - bring your car in for service immediately. It could be something as simple as a loose nut, but you wont know if its more serious unless you have it checked out.
