Young professionals and new families looking to own their first homes may be under the impression that when it comes to great places to live, their options are limited. According to The Money Source, however, that just isn't the case. After examining more than 70,000 loan applications, and taking criteria like national accolades and unemployment rates into consideration, the loan company formed a list of some of the best cities in the country for those utilizing the first-time homebuyer's credit.
At the very top of their list, with median home prices of about $155,500 and unemployment below the national average at just 4.5 percent, was Orlando, Florida. In 2014, Forbes named Orlando the best city in the country for job growth. That reputation hasn't dimmed. Families and singles alike will find opportunities abound in one of Florida's most popular destinations.
Des Moines, Iowa - considered one of premier spots for business and career growth for the next few years - made second place. Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Tulsa, Oklahoma and the ultra-cool Riverside, California rounded out The Money Source's top five selections.
