Home improvement trends in 2016

Rising new-home prices, growing curb appeal, more ambitious projects and energy efficient home improvements all played a part in remodeling projects' return on investment in 2015, according to the Remodeling 2016 Cost vs Value Report, and those same factors will help make 2016 an even better year for homeowners with redesign plans. Here are some of this year's biggest trends:
Paint and wallpaper are still solid ways of making an accent wall pop, but in 2016, stone and tile will be the go-to methods. Materials like reclaimed barn wood, and ambitious redesigns - like stone or tile floor-to-ceiling fireplaces that surround a room - will make for striking home improvements, the media outlet the Coloradoan noted.
At the dawn of every new year, industry leaders Benjamin Moore and Pantone announce certain colors that they see as representative of that year's cultural mood, the Coloradoan reported. Pantone chose Rose Quartz and Serenity - a light pink and blue, respectively - as their 2016 choices, while Benjamin Moore went with the obvious if slightly strange Simply White for their pick.
One trend from 2015 that will continue this year is homeowners' love of open floor plans. As usual, wide open kitchens will continue to be the focal point of these plans. Expanding their homes with expensive redesigns isn't necessary. Instead, homeowners can knock down non-load-bearing walls to create more space in existing rooms.
