Eco-friendly design is an incredibly popular trend today, from hybrid and electric vehicles to solar panels and sustainable building materials in homes.
In fact, it could soon be a lot easier for potential homebuyers to find "green" homes for sale, thanks in part to an increase in homebuilders. A recent list from BUILDER showed that the number of homebuilders focusing on eco-friendly, sustainable design has only grown since 2012.
In that year, 110 of the respondents to BUILDER's research met green industry standards, while that ticked up to 149 by 2014. This includes companies using green building programs, as well as Energy Star and other popular options.
For a prospective homeowner, green home design can cover a wide range of possible features.
Some of the most popular include:
- Eco-friendly materials - Certain building materials, like recycled aluminum, are more friendly on the environment.
- Energy-efficient windows and doors - The right doors and windows can prevent a lot of hot or cool air from escaping the home, lowering energy bills and benefiting the environment.
- Alternative energy - Homes can also harness alternative energy for electrical purposes, like solar panels.
Overall, the choices for green homes could continue to rise in the coming years, especially for those buyers in the market for residential financing and a new home.
