For many parts of the country, December was a quiet year in terms of weather. According to Edmunds.com, this was one factor that actually helped contribute to a strong month for vehicle sales.
The lack of freezing cold and snow meant that shoppers had an easier time getting to the dealerships, and coupling that with affordable auto financing, added incentives and a stronger economy equaled a good month for sales. Edmunds.com reported that projected sales will be up 16.4 percent from November to December.
According to TrueCar, the total number of new light vehicles sold in December could climb as high as 1.5 million units for the month. That would mark a 9.5 percent increase on a yearly basis.
"What a way to close out this blockbuster year for the industry," said John Krafcik, president of TrueCar. "With the strongest demand in a decade, gains in highly profitable segments and modest incentive growth, automakers should be grinning as they close the books this year."
Overall, 2014 was a good year for vehicle sales. Given the recent trends, it is likely that the positive momentum will continue into 2015 as well.
