Is the most popular time of year for car shopping in the spring? Or maybe it is in the fall? Actually, according to Edmunds.com, it could very well be December.
The vehicle-buying website found that sales increased by 78 percent on a weekly basis for the period between Christmas day and New Year's day. By comparison, the last weeks of other months often see sales increase by only 40 percent. Luxury vehicle sales were also popular at this time of year, as marketing strategies and incentives grabbed hold of potential buyers.
"The final week of the year, between Christmas and New Year's, is a particularly exciting time for car shoppers," said Philip Reed, senior consumer advice editor at Edmunds.com. "As the dealers look to sell the last of their 2014 model year vehicles, car shoppers will have the opportunity to choose from a wide range of cars at affordable prices."
If you are in the market for a new car, consider a few helpful tips as you search. Edmunds.com recommended several steps, including pre-approval of auto financing.
In addition, you should make sure you have done your research ahead of time. Use the Internet to scour for potential vehicles, then call dealerships to see if your choices are on the lot. This will save you time and the hassle of traveling from dealership to dealership.
