Used vehicles often come in less-than-perfect condition. For this reason, it's important to have a trusty repair shop to deal with any unexpected issues.
According to a recent survey conducted by AutoMD.com, car owners prefer independent auto repair shops over those operated by dealership by a two to one margin. Specifically, consumers said the relationships they build with mechanics over the years as well as more affordable prices are the main reasons for the vast difference in sentiment.
"It is no secret that consumers are holding onto their vehicles for record lengths of time, meaning more and more visits to the repair shop or dealer service center," said Brian Hafer , VP of Marketing for AutoMD.com.
With still plenty of winter weather expected to hit many parts of the country, it's important for car owners to perform some routine maintenance. Snow and ice can yield slippery conditions, so drivers should make sure to periodically check the treads on their tires to ensure they're getting enough grip.
Additionally, salt and sand spread on roads can cause damage to a vehicle's paint job, so taking it for regular washes is of the utmost importance to help the car retain its value.
